ABSTRACT:
The newest generation VSATs, as primarily designed for and utilized within star network architectures, have performances which exceed those from current, common terrestrial fixed line and terrestrial wireless service offerings which directly target enterprise use and applications. However, while the satellite industry has been busy with its own accomplishments, the performance of many commonly used business software applications across corporate-wide WANs has come under increased scrutiny. The best of the newest achievements in VSAT performance and utility will not become any part of the mainstream of corporate network deployment unless solutions of the type reviewed in this paper become an integral portion of commercial (and competitive) service provider offerings.
